I Got a Free TV - Yes, Really

I love Fremont Freecycle! In case you are going "huh?" what Freecycle is is a bunch of location-specific Yahoo Groups where you can literally offer something you are giving away - or if you are looking for something, you can put "WANTED: such and such." You have to act quickly if you find something you want though. Such was the case on Friday night when i saw OFFER: 26" Flat TV. I jumped on it.

An LCD TV, only 3 years old with one flaw: The sound quit working a few days before. I said I'd take it and went to get it Saturday morning. Beautiful TV - she had the owners manual and cables in a zip loc bag, immaculate. We got it home and sure enough, no sound, but I googled it and found the service manual and how to troubleshoot it. Then I got an idea when I discovered a headphone jack...what if...and it worked!
Remembering a pair of unused computer speakers out in a drawer i my workshop, I dug them out and hooked them up. Let there be sound....and there was...and I was happy. So now I have a nice 26" LCD TV in the bedroom which was my favorite price - FREE!
I got a platform glider/rocker about 2 months ago, a nice cabinet for the storage/utility room, and now a nice TV.
Gotta love FreeCycle....
