December 23, 2010

Greetings!  2010 has been quite a year for us.  I won’t go into lengthy details, but basically it took us until about the end of March to finish moving from the old house to the rental house (which does not look like a rental at all!).  My old house looked like the rental!  The old house sat vacant until the end of August when the short sale finally went through.  It was bad - high school kids used the back yard to party, someone broke in, it just went on and on.

A new hobby was discovered in April - a lady in our Harley Owners Group chapter, Linda, taught Marian to do stained glass.  Marian’s taking to this hobby has been described by one friend as “like a duck to water.”  Marian has created over 30 projects, and made entries in the Alameda County Fair and took First and Second in the “First Projects” category.  Since then, she got into ‘fused glass’ where glass is layered and melted in a kiln.  She never thought she’d make jewelry, but the pieces are quite remarkable - you never know what you’re going to get until it’s all cooled down.

The wedding took place on August 7th, and it was quite a fun event.   Clad in ivory leather, Marian led a ride directly following the short & sweet ceremony through Niles, a veil flowing from underneath her decorated helmet.  About 70 guests packed the back yard and the comments were something like “I didn’t know anyone when I got there but feel I got to know about everyone before I left.”  People are still talking about the good time they had - which is the best thing a host and hostess can hear!

We lost one of our feline friends in October.  Ariel was adopted several years ago -she was very old then - and we really are not sure how old she was but we are guessing around 20.  She was always very thin, but then went off her food and got down to 5.5 pounds.  The look she was giving me at that point was “I’m done.”  It is still very h ard to make the decision to end it - but she really sincerely gave that feeling.  I miss my garage cat - she was always hanging out there when I would be soldering or cutting my stained glass projects.

I’ve been keeping busy with these projects and Eddie has had a lot of work this year.  He took the first portion of testing to get on fulltime with the school distict.  He has two more rounds to go - after the first of the year.

We look forward to 2011  and wish all of our friends and family a happy holiday and healthy and prosperous new year!
