Our Loss and Gain
July 23, 2005
This was a sad week for us...we lost Kimba to our busy road. She decided to get off the frontage road and venture out into the main thoroughfare...very sad. So, we now have a little orange guy. I've never had an orange cat before. The photo shows Oreo's acceptance after only 30 minutes of acquaintance. That's Oreo for you...
It was very sad to find Kimba's description in the DOA book at the Animal Shelter. She had been missing and we had no idea where she was. I figured she was at the pound, but alive at the pound. It wasn't so.
We are saddened by our loss, and I can't even get Kimba's remains to give her a decent memorial as it was too late. The pound had already done what they do with remains a few days before.
We looked at kitties at the shelter after a few days but everyone there had an upper respiratory infection. We experienced that with Noelle (may she rest in peace) as we adopted her from there. She had lifelong upper respiratory problems so we didn't want to take that chance.
So, I found myself at Petco today and looked at a few kitties, but this little orange guy did something to me. He has a nice purr box, and a sweet disposition. Fresia is giving him the business and he doesn't let it faze him.
Oreo immediately took to the kitten and wanted to play with him right away. He didn't hiss like Fresia did when she was a kitten and I brought her home. He went along with Oreo's playing and Oreo happily licked his face and shoulders for him. They are playing as I write this and the little guy is only an hour and a half new! He was born on May 3rd, so he's just under 3 months old. He'll name himself as they seem to do. It's funny that in all of the years I've had cats, I've never once had an orange one!
First news story in a while that didn't involve motorcycles <g>...
