Always wanted one
May 30, 2025
It's been quite a month. It is bittersweet and full of memories and reflection, but also, a little bit of joy. I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream...a Corvette
I remember falling in love with Corvettes as a kid. I never thought I'd actually have one!
I never even drove a Corvette for all of those years. I always looked on from the sidelines, and thought that would be cool, but if I ever drove one, I would really be obsessed with something I would not be able to have.
Last summer, we rented a fun car for my birthday trip to Hearst Castle. It was a convertible Mustang and it was a BLAST! I had been reliving those hours on the road ever since - remembering how much fun it was to zip around with the top down in a bright red sports car. I had seen a quote somewhere a few months back that said "If you want to get a sports car, don't wait until you're too old to do it" or something like that.
When my mom left the world, she left us some money. I was calculating on the bills I'd finally pay off, and my husband asked if I might get something fun that "lets a lot of sun in." I decided okay, let's at least look.
I was looking at Mustangs and so forth one evening. The next day was the day to go settle out and distribute the trust. I got up in the morning and it hit me: I've wanted a Corvette for my entire life. When would I ever get the chance again? I looked online and got a terrible sticker shock. Okay, never mind. I resumed my search of convertibles, and then this beautiful, burgundy Corvette appeared on my screen. A 2007. It was in Concord. One thing led to another...I called and talked to the guy who was a broker of sorts, and he said it was a manual 6 speed and was a manual transmission a problem? The problem would have been if it was NOT a manual transmission, I replied, and we laughed. A few hours later, I drove a Corvette for the first time.
And then, I drove it home.
