Charcoal, my Dysfunctional Kitty

February 1, 2006

Charcoal has adopted us. He is a gorgeous cat who basically showed up when my office was built out in the back. Showed up one night in the back yard and chased away Ariel's feral friend who frequents the yard but is pretty afraid of humans. We thought Charcoal must have a home; an adult cat that I first thought was a female as I couldn't find proof otherwise (he's very furry). After inquiring around the neighborhood and posting some "found cat" ads, it was pretty obvious that despite George telling him to "Go Home," Charcoal was home.

Fast forward to the present. We have had Charcoal to the vet for his checkup and shots and the equipment check revealed a male--a neutered male. Then the behavior seemed to begin shortly after that. Charcoal became amorous with the back of the couch. Charcoal became amorous with my lap. Charcoal became amorous with George's arm. Charcoal is amarous, period. I found an article about his behavior, referred to as Compulsive Reproductive Behavior and it looks like there's hope-medication he can be put on. There is hope, so stay tuned. He's a very wonderful, beautiful cat and is 6-7 years old. I'd like to get him more well adjusted so he doesn't hump our company...
